The mountain of Piton de la Petite Riviere Noire is the highest mountain in Mauritius at approximately 830 metres above sea level. Despite of this status, this is easily the most accessible mountain hike in the island though somewhat a long walk at approximately 3.5km each way. Location
The mountain is located in the south west of Mauritius in the Black River National Park. The path starts at the Black River Viewpoint which serves as a popular destination for tourists and visitors travelling through the area.
There are no public bus routes travelling through this area and you will need to travel by car to the car park of the Black River Viewpoint where you can leave your transport. Depending on your starting point, the area is accessible westwards from the coastal road at La Gaulette through the mountains of Chamarel, or from the south by either the road at the village of Baie du Cap or the road from Souillac. There is also the road from the East passing through Plaine Champagne and Les Marres. Description
